The extraordinary life of an ordinary woman
Honoring the past,
making waves in the future
Welcome to my site, and thank you for visiting.
I'm Catherine Williams Fort — a storyteller, historian, genealogist, and speaker. I believe in the power of stories to connect us across generations. Let me share my stories with you, and I hope you'll share yours with me.

Together, we can honor the past and make waves in the future.

Adventures around the world
Travel has been a passion for many years. I was fortunate to travel a great deal for work, and I've had some wonderful adventures with my family and friends, and as a solo traveler, over the years.

I'd like to share some of my travel pictures with you, so you can join me on my journeys! I am not an expert photographer, by any means I'm barely adequate. So the really good pictures were taken by fellow travelers (credited where possible)

Because I'm geeky like that, I actually compiled some statistics during the Pandemic. My Waze app praised me for traveling 500 miles in the first 6 months of 2020. I chuckled and thought about all the miles I'd traveled the year before, and realized I had a solid 10 years of travel tracked on a travel-management app, so, having nothing better to do in those days, I learned that my **500 miles** was not the norm up to that point. From 2009 to 2019, I:

Traveled 179,102 miles (28,431 miles a year)
Spent 600 days on the road (90 days a year)
Took 105 trips (14.5 a year)
Visited 228 cities (33 a year)
In 12 countries other than the US

Since 2020, things have changed. I haven't been on an airplane since 2019. Covid killed my wanderlust. I used to get antsy if I didn't go somewhere every six weeks or so. With some exceptions, I really have no interest in traveling any longer. I hope someday to reawaken that travel bug, and I will go back to Scotland even if I never go beyond driving-distance for anything else.
